DECA’s Western Region Officer Training Camp
July 16-18, 2009 — San Diego State University

It was a golden leadership experience in the Golden State at the 8th annual Western Region Officer Training Camp (WROTC)!  San Diego State University was the place to catch DECA at work and play building to be the best for 2009-10! 

There was a lot of leadership at the BEACH in San Diego:

• Exciting sessions led by DECA’s top trainers and national officers!
• Awesome resources to build your DECA program!
• Cool new friendships with outstanding local, state, and provincial leaders!
• Hear updates on DECA and the best ways promote membership and participation!

DECA WROTC featured two leadership tracks designed especially for state/provincial and local officers.  Leaders worked in teams to brainstorm, share ideas, and compete for top honors.  Everyone enjoyed the fun, sun, and excitement of San Diego while training and growing their network.  Participants explored the sights and sounds of historic San Diego and cutting edge enterprises!

DECA LEADS Part II:  Management
DECA State and Provincial Officer Track for WROTC featured the next phase of DECA LEADS training.  Management was the key emphasis of skill development and state and provincial leaders worked to prepare for an awesome new membership year.  Training highlights included:

Chapter Management Academy Part II:  Fundraising, Unique Selling, Event Management, Leadership

Learn by doing! Lead with experience! The Local Chapter Officer Track is designed to super charge local chapters by providing talented chapter leaders with the skills, plans, knowledge, experience, and resources to lead their chapter to the best DECA year yet! Chapter Officers simultaneously learned proven management and marketing methodologies and then appled them to live chapter scenarios. The driving purpose behind this approach is for Chapter Officers to simulate their year of service so that when they get home and actually have to perform—they are ready to lead with confidence, commitment, courage, and charisma! Highlights of this training track included:

• Effective Fund Development
• Marketing and promoting DECA
• Managing events and planning chapter activities
• Membership recruitment campaigns
• Developing and delivering a chapter program of work
• Running effective, engaging, and exciting meetings

Special Advisor Sessions

WROTC packed three special advisor sessions! While state and local advisors were involved primarily by observing, supporting, and coaching their student leaders during WROTC, three special advisor sessions will be held.
